Nowshera is a small town located on the bank of Manawer river just 4 kms inwards from the Manawer bridge on Jammu-Poonch national highway. It is a border Tehsil of Distt. Rajouri with a vast areal and demographic extent. Given its spatial and demographic extend, Nowshera has been given the status of a Sub-District. It is a beautiful place with a number of tourist attractions including the fort of Mangla Devi, holy cave temple of Mangla Mata, Central Gurudwara of Sikhs in Nonial, Qila Darhal and other Dargahs and temples. The literacy rate of Nowshera is very high with low male-female literacy gap that shows that there is deep inclination of people towards education.

Establishment of college in this remote and border Tehsil of Rajouri district remained a popular demand of people of Nowshera since very long to enable students get higher education with ease especially for the girl students who otherwise have to go either Rajouri or Jammu for that purpose. Many had to quit their studies for this reason. Chief Minister of J&K, in his visit to Nowshera in 2007 promised to open a Govt. Degree College here at its earliest that soon became a reality.

This college was established in 2008 vide Govt. Order No. 269-HE of 2007 dated 20-12-2007 when 18 new govt. degree colleges were announced to be opened in the state especially to give a flip to undergraduate studies in hitherto neglected peripheral districts and their Tehsils. 24th April, 2012 was the day of great importance and joy for the residents of Nowshera when Hon’ble Chief Minister, Jenab Omar Abdullah along with Sh.
